For now, this blog will serve as a repository of lesson plans submitted by teachers for upper elementary music students. Specifically, the lessons are geared for those students from economically or socially disadvantaged backgrounds who are typically difficult to engage and less than eager to listen to music that they are not familiar with. Lessons will include authentic music from all cultures, time periods and styles, especially classical or "serious" music. Many teachers shy away from exposing their students to this type of music because they fear the students will be bored or find it distasteful. And that very well may be, but there are ways of circumventing this problem and affording these students the opportunity to be exposed to unfamiliar music.
